Touch The World TV & Artist Management is proud to present "TTW Music & Instructional Arts Workshop”
This vision was inspired by my Godparents Pastor Shiela Harris, founder of Young Peoples Music & Instructional Workshop and The Late Ted Harris, founder of Gospel Music & Instructional Workshop.
We are blessed to have such a multitude of gifted musicians and talented vocalist in church today. Unfortunately, some do not properly learn their craft (directing, teaching, and so on.), and it often becomes a hindrance because the talent STOPS with the gifting. We no longer encourage those who minister in music in our church to learn their craft adding a "spirit of excellence" to the gifting. "The shame isn't in not knowing but in knowing that you don't know and not trying to find out," motto from GMIW.
YPMIW and GMIW were designed to be FUN, for networking and to share some important principals regarding the fundamentals and rudiments of music, choir decorum, distinguishing what is proper and suitable music for worship service as well as being sensitive to the Spirit of God.
Attendees had to be disciplined and attentive to handle the rigorous structure for the week. Musicians had to be able to teach their material within the time limit of 25 minutes and songs that were submitted to be taught in the workshops were evaluated on content, message, strength of harmony and wordiness.
Usually the workshop was offered for five days culminating with a musical, such as this and the workshop choir would minister 10-12 songs learned during the week. Parallel to the rehearsals were classes teaching varied subjects for the purpose of better equipping music ministries of our local church in vocal exercises, intonation, uniformity, the difference between praise and worship and more.
It was through these workshops where I learned how to appreciate the art of music ministry. Pastor Ted & Shiela were a blessing to my ministry and touched many lives for many years, and I have decided to carry on their legacy. After my Godfather passed I ran from this mantle for many years, but now it must birthed in 2012. In August 2012, we want to remember Pastor Ted’s & Shiela’s legacy in music by celebrating the birth of "Touch The World’s Music & Instructional Arts Workshop”. So it is written, so it shall be!
