Phat X Events was founded by CEO Brian Cochran, a true pioneer in the event production industry with over 50 years of hands-on experience.
Brian’s journey began in 1975 as a young party DJ. By 1981, he had moved into club DJing and quickly expanded into designing and installing professional sound systems for nightclubs and businesses. The demand grew so rapidly that in the early 1980s he opened his first retail store, Street Beat Records, in Pomona, California.
Street Beat Records soon became a destination for music lovers and DJs across Southern California. Brian grew the business to three successful locations, offering the latest records, tapes, CDs, and professional DJ equipment. As the business evolved, Street Beat expanded into equipment rentals, large-scale sound installations, and even launched its own DJ training school.
The rise of digital music and file-sharing services like Napster dramatically changed the industry. In 2002, Brian made the difficult decision to close the retail stores and reinvent the business. He re-launched under the name Phat X, focusing on professional sound production and mobile DJ services for events of all sizes.
Over the following years, Phat X built an impressive inventory of high-quality audio equipment for both DJ performances and full-scale sound reinforcement. In 2019–2020, as live streaming and podcasting began to explode in popularity, Brian recognized the shift early and began investing heavily in professional cameras, live streaming gear, and podcast equipment. He started training churches, nonprofits, and organizations on how to produce high-quality live streams and podcasts.
Brian has authored several practical guides, including Startup Guide to Live Streaming, Startup Guide to Church Sound and Lighting, and Startup Guide to Podcasting. He has also built multiple podcast studios, launched internet radio stations in 2002, and currently operates the BAC TV Network, an internet television network.
Today, Phat X has proudly re-launched its full equipment rental department in Pomona, California (Inland Empire), serving weddings, corporate events, churches, podcasts, live streams, and more. We are also preparing to open a new location in the City of Orange, California (Orange County) to better serve our growing Southern California clientele.
With over five decades of real-world experience, Phat X delivers reliable, professional-grade audio, video, lighting, DJ, and podcast gear — backed by the expertise only a company with this much history can offer.
